Video Editing & Styling
Once a segment is selected on the timeline, you can access a powerful set of editing tools to customize its appearance and playback behavior — no software download required.
Canvas Interaction
Control exactly how your video appears in the player area:
- Free Movement: Click and drag the video directly on the canvas to reposition it.
- Resizing: Adjust the scale of your video to zoom in on details or create picture-in-picture effects.
- 9-Point Positioning: Instantly snap your video to any corner, edge, or the center of the canvas.
Non-Destructive Video Crop
Reframe your footage without permanently altering the original file. iviCut's non-destructive crop lets you trim any edge of a video segment — top, bottom, left, or right — and restore the original framing at any time.
How to crop a video
- Select a video segment on the timeline so it becomes focused on the canvas.
- Click the Crop button that appears above the video.
- Drag any of the four edge handles — top, bottom, left, or right — to define your crop area. A rule-of-thirds grid and a darkened mask outside the crop region help you compose the perfect frame.
- Click Done to confirm, or Cancel to discard all changes and restore the previous crop.
Crop settings panel
You can also enter exact crop values using the Crop section in the video settings form:
- Left / Right: Remove a percentage from the horizontal edges.
- Top / Bottom: Remove a percentage from the vertical edges.
- Reset: Instantly clear all crop values back to zero.
Crop in exported video
Crop values are fully applied during export. iviCut uses FFmpeg to bake the crop into the final rendered video, so the exported file matches exactly what you see on the canvas.
Tip: Combine crop with the 9-point position presets to reframe a vertical clip for YouTube Shorts or crop out unwanted content from the edges before sharing.
Appearance & Styling
Use the editing form to refine the visual style of your clips:
- Zoom & Pan: Precisely control the zoom level and pan position for each segment.
- Borders & Corners: Add professional touches like customizable corner radius, border size, and border colors.
- Background Effects: When videos don't fill the entire canvas, choose between solid colors, gradients, or a modern blurred video background effect.
Playback Controls
- Speed Control: Adjust the playback speed of individual segments to create slow-motion or time-lapse effects.
- Transport Controls: Use standard play, pause, and seek functions to review your edits in real-time.
Next Steps
Once your clips are styled, enhance them with text overlays, images, or audio. When you're ready, head to Export to render your final video.
